How a graduating student's education and experiences in the BYU Nursing program prepared him to be "in the right place at the right time."
Sisters Lauren Ellsworth-Barnes and Alena Ellsworth shared nearly everything at BYU: classes, homework, two majors, track workouts and even a track and field national title. They have so much in common that they are often mistaken for fraternal twins despite their two-year age difference.
An interdisciplinary BYU team recently came together to conduct a research study in Nepal, aiming to measure brick workers’ exposure to pollutants and to assess their respiratory health. The eventual goal is to determine what information, technology and strategies they can develop with the Nepali people to help them improve their well-being.
In this Q&A, BYU nursing professor Katreena Merrill shares her decades of expertise and recent findings from her perfectly timed research (carried out with fellow BYU professor Beth Luthy) to help make navigating the cold and flu aisle at the store more manageable this winter.
A group of BYU students and professors recently returned from a memorable study abroad trip to Poland serving in Ukrainian refugee centers. The students provided medical aid, taught classes on health and wellness, and donated thousands of dollars worth of medical supplies.
Dr. Julie Valentine “has been a driving force to inform policy to reduce sexual violence, provide a voice and vision for affected individuals"
In the largest study of its kind, a BYU nursing team analyzed Utah sexual assault victims’ medical exam charts from 2017 to 2020. They found that 14% of the 1,968 rapes committed by acquaintances occurred during an initial meetup arranged through a dating app. Those cases stood out in disturbing ways: victims with mental illnesses and other vulnerabilities were targeted, and the attacks were significantly more violent.
BYU students helped refugees find clothing, others dutifully assembled hygiene kits. At one point or another, each of the 13 students took time to play with the children; many of whom were eager for a friend and longed for trusted human contact.
BYU Law has earned its highest U.S. News ranking to date, rocketing up six spots from last year and coming in at No. 23 in the 2023 Best Graduate School rankings released today. The Marriott School of Business once again ranks high and the BYU Nursing program makes a big jump.
For the past 10 years, BYU nursing professor and certified sexual assault examiner Julie Valentine has helped put Utah at the forefront of making touch DNA evidence collection a standard practice in groping cases.
