How to Apply for Scholarships

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

Undergraduate students apply for scholarships using the BYU online system. For more information about applying for scholarships and deadlines, please visit https://enrollment.byu.edu/financialaid/apply-for-scholarships.

Students can expect to receive a scholarship award notification through the My Financial Center in their myBYU account by July 31.

GRADUATE STUDENTS

Graduate students apply for scholarships through the Department of Plant and Wildlife Sciences only. Completed applications are due to the Graduate Program Manager on May 1 by 11:59 pm.

Graduate Student Exception Scholarship Application 2023 to 2024

Graduate students should not submit a scholarship application using the BYU online system. By submitting this single exception scholarship application, graduate students will be considered for all scholarships that they are eligible for.

Graduate students must be a graduate student in the PWS Department and be in good standing in order to be eligible for scholarships. Students who apply for the PWS Graduate Exception Scholarship but are not in good standing with the department will have their scholarship application withdrawn.

Students can expect to receive a scholarship award notification through the My Financial Center in their myBYU account by Aug 20.

College Awards

MORRIS K. UDALL SCHOLARSHIP

The Udall Foundation seeks future leaders across a wide spectrum of environmental fields, including policy, engineering, science, education, urban planning and renewal, business, health, justice, and economics. Up to $5000 towards tuition, fees, living expenses.

RODNEY ALLRED SCHOLARSHIP

For undergraduates. Half-tuition award for junior and senior students with a GPA of at least 3.0.

THIRZA FACKRELL SCHOLARSHIP

For undergraduates. Part-tuition ward based on financial need. For students in the biological sciences. Must fill out FAFSA form.

JULIA GREENWELL AWARD

For graduates. Amount to cover credit hours indicated on the scholarship application, up to half-tuition.

WILLIAM HEBARD SCHOLARSHIP

For undergraduates. Half-tuition award for junior and senior students with a GPA of at least 3.0.

BLAIR JOHNS SCHOLARSHIP

For undergraduates. Half-tuition award based on need and must have a GPA of at least 3.5. For sophomores, juniors and seniors. Must fill out a FAFSA form.

GALE MECHAM SCHOLARSHIP

For undergraduates. Half-tuition award for students with a GPA of at least 3.0. NIH

INTERNSHIP

For undergraduates. $500 or more to help cover costs to do research at NIH on summer internships.

PREMEDICAL SCHOLARSHIP

For undergraduates. Full-tuition award for junior and senior medical students who are preparing application to medical school or have been accepted to medical school.

UTAH DAIRY AWARD

For undergraduates. Three $500 scholarships for students with a special interest in dairy science and production, dairy management and dairy products technology. For students in NDFS and pre-vet students.

Plant and Wildlife Sciences

ROBERT N. ANDERSON ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

One semester, half-tuition, twelve available for undergraduates in Genetics and Biotechnology or Landscape Management (with a business track).

ALBERT BAHR SCHOLARSHIP

One or two semesters, quarter or half-tuition. One semester for undergraduates with majors in Environmental Science. One or two available.

GRACE BATTLE SCHOLARSHIP

One or two semesters, quarter or half-tuition. One semester for undergraduates with majors in the Department of Plant and Wildlife Science. Especially for those emphasizing animal studies.

GARY M. AND SHARRA L. BOOTH SCHOLARSHIP

One or two semesters, up to $1000. For undergraduate or graduate students majoring in the Department of Plant and Wildlife Science especially for those emphasizing entomology.

JAMES BOSWELL SCHOLARSHIP

One or two semesters, quarter or half-tuition. For undergraduates with majors with a business track.

WILLIAM N. AND BETH BROTHERSON NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT SCHOLARSHIP

One or two semesters, up to $1000. For juniors, seniors, or graduate students majoring in the Department of Plant and Wildlife Sciences. Especially for those involved in management aspects of natural resources.

G. ALVIN & HORTENSE CARPENTER

Two semesters, half-tuition, one to two available for seniors in Genetics and Biotechnology and Landscape Management (with a business track). Especially for those with interest in international business.

CLARENCE C. COTTAM SCHOLARSHIP

One or two semesters, up to $1000 for graduate students. Especially for those working in wildland and wildlife, natural history and conservation biology.

MARCUS DALY SCHOLARSHIP

One or two semesters, quarter or half tuition. Two semesters for undergraduates with majors in the Department of Plant and Wildlife Science. Ten or more available.

FARNSWORTH SCHOLARSHIP

Two semesters, quarter or half-tuition, one or two available for graduate students in Agronomy or Genetics or undergraduates in Environmental Science or Genetics and Biotechnology.

MERRILL J. HALLAM ENDOWMENT FUND

Two semesters, quarter or half-tuition, one or two available for undergraduates in Environmental Science or Genetics and Biotechnology.

INTERNATIONAL AGRICULTURE IMPROVEMENT FUND

One or two semesters, quarter or half-tuition or help for travel or related expenses of international internships for majors in the Department of Plant and Wildlife Science. International students encouraged to apply. One or two available.

IRA LEE KENNINGTON SCHOLARSHIP

One or two semesters, quarter or half tuition for undergraduates with majors in the Department of Plant and Wildlife Science. One to three available.

MACK KENNINGTON SCHOLARSHIP

One or two semesters, quarter or half-tuition for undergraduates with majors in the Department of Plant and Wildlife Science. Two to five available.

OSEPH R. AND SHAUNA LARSEN SCHOLARSHIP One or two semesters, up to $1000 for undergraduate or graduate students with majors in the Department of Plant and Wildlife Science in any area of biological science.

W. DERBY AND RUBY W. LAWS SCHOLARSHIP

Two semesters, quarter or half-tuition, one or two available for undergraduates in Environmental Science or Genetics and Biotechnology.

THOMAS L. MARTIN MEMORIAL TRUST

Two semesters, quarter or half-tuition, one or two available for undergraduate students in Environmental Science or Genetics and Biotechnology.

JOSEPH AND MAXINE MURDOCK SCHOLARSHIP

One or two semesters, up to $500 for undergraduates majoring in Genetics and Biotechnology or Wildlife and Wildlands; GPA of 3.4 or above.

PARLEY NELSON SCHOLARSHIP

One or two semesters, quarter or half tuition. Two semesters for undergraduates with majors in the Department of Plant and Wildlife Science. One to three available.

PLANT AND WILDLIFE SCIENCE UNDERGRADUATE MENTORING AND TRAVEL SCHOLARSHIP

Available to undergraduate students in support of travel for presentations at regional, national or international scientific meetings or team competitions. For undergraduate students with majors in the Department of Plant and Wildlife Science.

PLANT AND WILDLIFE SCIENCE FACULTY AWARD

Two semesters, quarter or half-tuition, one or two available for undergraduate students in Department of Plant and Wildlife Science with financial need.

PLANT AND WILDLIFE SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP AND AWARD FUND

Two semesters, quarter or half-tuition, one to ten available for undergraduates with majors in the Department of Plant and Wildlife Science with financial need.

HOWARD C. AND MILDRED R. STUTZ RESEARCH AWARD

One or two semesters up to $1000-for graduates involved in wildland shrubs research.

CLYDE LYNN TERRY SCHOLARSHIP

Two semesters, quarter or half-tuition, one or two available for undergraduate students in Environmental Science or Genetics and Biotechnology.

VERNON J. TIPTON FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

One or two semesters up to $1000 for graduate students working in wildland and wildlife sciences or natural history with emphasis in entomology.

WOODWARD-RITEWOOD SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Two semesters, quarter or half-tuition, seven to ten available for undergraduate students with majors in the Department of Plant and Wildlife Science.
