Undergraduate Major
Students who major in Genetics, Genomics & Biotechnology choose to follow a complete science based track or one that combines science and business training. Each track includes a comprehensive core of courses in genetics, biology and chemistry along with more specialized offerings. You can review undergraduate and graduate program requirements in the University Catalog.
Genetics and Genomics Option
This option is entirely science based and is perfect for students who wish to pursue careers in biology related fields after graduation, or who are preparing for graduate or professional educational opportunities in research, genetic counseling, medicine, dentistry or law.
Business Minor Option
This option features a smaller core of sciences courses combined with courses taken from the Marriott School, which can lead to a minor in business management. It is perfect for students who are interested in working in biology related businesses or who have a strong interest in entrepreneurial opportunities in the life sciences.
The Genetics Great Lab
Research is conducted in the Genetics Great Lab, a shared laboratory involving all of the genetics, genomics, and biotechnology faculty and their students. The lab provides an interactive environment where students can work together to solve research problems. The laboratory includes space and equipment for genetic experiments, a computer lab for data analysis, and a break room where students can hang out, eat lunch, or study.
