The performance begins with the “Violin Concert no. 1” by Dmitri Shostakovich with artist Alex Woods. The second half of the concert is given over to Sergei Rachmaninoff's famous “Symphony no. 2, in E Minor.”
“There is nothing quite like the power of music in helping us to express emotions,” BYU Singers member Elisa Thurber said. “Performing and rehearsing never fails to be a healing experience for me."
Salonga’s return to BYU marks a much-anticipated night of standards and show tunes.
The concert will also include the presentation of the United States National Amateur Cabaret Champions, and BYU students, Benjamin Ralph and Kayci Treu.
The director knew the team had to create space for the actors to run, and while this running would include some stylized choreography, the majority had to be true running. Luckily, he had the right man for the job.
Under the direction of Jean Applonie, Women’s Chorus has prepared a night full of variety including Baroque, contemporary, popular folk and hymns.
The performance will include “Incantation and Dance” and “Release the Hounds,” by Daniel Montoya as well as a piece honoring Rosa Parks.
The concert will feature music from Russia, Italy and America.
After five years of work BYU has obtained the rights for the production. In preparation for the performance, seats were removed from the Pardoe Theatre to make room for a track that will run through the audience.
Based on the Salem witch trials, the play emphasizes the danger a fear-based society can create and its potential to destroy lives.
