Alex Carroll completed his master's degree at BYU with Dr. Neil Hansen in 2015, studying the effects of nitrogen and irrigation management on maize under deficit irrigation conditions. After his master's degree, he worked for three years in Haiti, managing peanut research and extension programs for an international nonprofit and then directing an agricultural technical college. From 2018 to 2024, Alex was a doctoral student at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University, where his research was focused on evaluating the sustainability and impacts of US development assistance programs in Burkina Faso and Niger. He is currently the strategic learning advisor for the GAINS Resilience Food Security Activity (RFSA), a US-funded development program in Kasaï province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He is also continuing to pursue research, with a current focus on digitalization and development in West Africa. In his free time, he enjoys travel, hiking, outdoor sports, and music.
