Certifications

In addition to offering you a high-quality degree, BYU can assist you in gaining career-advancing certifications. These certifications will help you to improve your knowledge of landscaping as well as assert your landscaping abilities in the working world; however, the most important reason to become certified is personal growth, and with it, the confidence that comes from being a life-long learner.

Certified Landscape Professional (CLP):

Becoming a certified landscape professional is mainly a test of your business skills. You will be tested on your financial ability, your knowledge of local laws and regulations, your ability to manage people, and your commitment to ethics.

Certified Landscape Technician (CLT):

A CLT’s focus is more of a hands-on approach. Some of the topics that you will require an understanding of are:

  • First Aid and Safety
  • Plan Reading
  • Plant Identification
  • Sod Installation
  • Tree Planting
  • Chainsaw Operations

Also on top of this, in your exam you will be required to complete questions from one of the three modules:

  • Installation
  • Maintenance
  • Irrigation

ISA Certified Arborist

If you have an affinity for working with trees, you might want to consider becoming an arborist. To become certified, you will take an exam that covers every aspect of tree care and requires the individual to have an acceptable level of knowledge in all areas of arboriculture. In more specific terms, this exam will test you on your knowledge of soils, water management, and mineral nutrition.
