Sheep Discovery Zone
Sheep (Ovis aries) have played a major role in human agriculture, culture, and economies throughout history and continue to contribute to sustainable land management, textile production, and food industries today. Given that sheep utilize rangelands and play a key role in multiple use land management, rangeland education efforts should include information about these grazing animals.
We created three curricula for youth ages 11 to 18, focusing on the environmental, industrial, and cultural value of sheep. Curricula includes detailed learning objectives, comprehensive lesson plans, and interactive activities designed to enhance classroom learning and foster student participation. Through these curricula, students will gain a better understanding and deeper appreciation of the role sheep play in sustainable land use and resource management on rangelands.
