Golden Barrel Cactus

Echinocactus grusonii (syn. Kroenleinia grusonii)

Native Range: Mexico (Chihuahuan Desert)

Native Habitat: Medium to steep slopes of volcanic or calcareous soil

Cultural Use/Significance: The Golden Barrel Cactus is endangered in the wild due to illegal poaching. The two known wild populations are near Zacatecas and Mesa de Leon.



Cultural Requirements

Temperature: Hardy to 20°F for a short time

Irrigation: Water deeply once a month. Do not wet the plant itself.

Relative Humidity: Low

Substrate: Well drained soils

Light: Full sun to light shade
