Centipede Grass

Eremochloa ophiuroides

Scientific Name: Eremochloa ophiuroides

Common Name: Centipede Grass

Centipede Grass is widely known for its high heat tolerance and low maintenance. However, this warm season grass has very specific soil and climate needs. These factors limit centipede grasses growth to the southeastern part of the United States. It has a moderate tolerance to shade and requires water only as needed. One interesting fact about Centipede grass is that it has no true dormancy period like other grasses, it will remain green almost year round. However, injuries or stress on the grass during “winter” months can prove fatal.
