LEO Africa is a big 5 and wildlife monitoring and conservation volunteer project located on the Marataba section of the Marakele National Park. Our mission is to help and provide the Park Section Management with relevant information on the key species on the park, such as lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, black and white rhino and hyena, as well as conservation work and contributing towards anti-poaching activities. LEO Africa is the only monitoring facility in the park, making our work vital for the management of the park. LEO Africa is also an environmental conscious organisation, operating in a responsible way and promoting a sustainable living.
LEO Africa is seeking an elephant monitoring assistant to undertake a census of the current elephant population within Marataba/Marakele. Some of this work has been started and the successful applicant will carry on this work on a continuous basis. Duties to include, but not limited to:
  • Conduct daily game drives to locate and monitor elephant populations
  • Take photos of individuals for identification
  • Collect data of herd makeup (sex/age) and relationships
  • Create ID kits for individuals and herds
