Summer 2018 Internship Opportunities
Utah's Hogle Zoo is seeking qualified candidates for our unpaid summer internship program. Opportunities to work with Animal Care, Conservation and Behavioral Programs are available.
• Animal Care: Gain hands on experience working alongside our Animal Care Staff as you learn what goes into the daily care of our animal collection including daily husbandry,training, enrichment and healthcare. Internships are available in: African Savannah,Ambassador Animals, Elephant Encounter, Primates, Rocky Shores and Small Animal Building. Animal care internships are 40 hours a week for 12 weeks running from May30- August 17.
• Behavioral Programs: Assist our Behavioral Programs Curator with the preparation and facilitation of the behavioral enrichment and training program at the zoo. Gain hands on experience with behavioral observations and interpretation, as well as what goes into running a successful training and enrichment program. The behavioral Programs internship is 24 hours a week for 12 weeks running from May 30-August 17.
• Conservation: Work alongside our Conservation Staff as you gain insight into the field of conservation biology with case study and practical experience with the conservation efforts ofthe zoo. Typical fieldwork focuses on amphibians, specifically the boreal toad. Some overnight and weekend fieldwork trips may be required. This is a 14-week internship running form May 14-Aug 17 with a total of 400-560 hours.
This is an unpaid internship with housing and transportation provided by the intern. All interns should be available to work weekdays, weekends and holidays. Start dates may be flexible based on the intern's school schedule
